Ikat technique of fabric dyeing used to create a distinct style of textile patterns. Ikat is done by resist dyeing sections of the yarns prior to weaving the fabric. In ikat the resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with tight wrapping applied in desired patterns. These yarns are then dyed. The bindings may then be altered to create a new pattern and the yarns dyed again with a different colour. This process may be repeated to produce multi-coloured patterns. When the dyeing is finished all the bindings are removed and the yarns are woven into cloth.
