The exhibition was conceptualized to celebrate 70 years of Indian independence bringing together various international and national institutions, to present India's glorious history with iconic objects from collections around the world. As the exhibition designers, we collated a collective narrative of the concept providing both context and proximity for the objects to converse with each other. With five galleries, nine sections and over 200 objects, the design emerged from the narrative and alluded to a timeless journey creating experiential spaces based on metonymy museum design. This type of design primarily focuses on the visitor's aesthetic enjoyment with a robust academic underpinning. It was equally important to understand the technical aspects of scale, materials, lighting, temperature and relative humidity (RH) requirements for each section. A distinctive colour palette was developed and customized cases for display of objects were built to enhance the visitors experience as they move through the exhibition.
