The British Council decided to move their offices from Nariman Point to Central Mumbai. The new premises are in a state-of-the-art modern building in the erstwhile mill district of Mumbai. As designers we had to work within the design standards prescribed by the British Council and yet provide a new landmark office for them. To utilize the maximum natural light we placed the open office areas along the glazed facade of the building. The enclosed spaces such as the meeting rooms, cabins and the cafeteria were centrally located. With special security requirements we had to plan carefully to bring in the customers effortlessly into the customer service center. The glass partitions, the high suspended ceiling and strong design elements that facilitate the play of light and colour make this area a special experience. The efficient back office with the feeling of transparency has only service related rooms and storage rooms articulated as solid cubes puncturing the open office space. The graphics and art work enhance the spaces of the functional and efficiently designed office.
