The Money & Jewellery Gallery at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), Mumbai focuses on the chronological development of currency and jewellery and the various physical features of these unique and visually captivating objects. The design plays with scale of coins to display the detailing, material and story encapsulated in each object. The graphical imagery and digital media reinforces the historical narrative and assists in seamless transition from the Coin to the Jewellery section. Looking at a 5,000-year-old tradition to present an unbroken continuity of love for adornment and craftsmanship skills, the jewellery section is sectioned to cover a wide variety of objects from jewellery made of precious metals, fish scales, beetle wings and elephant hair to replicas of the prized Golconda diamonds gifted by the Indian branch of the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). With more than 400 objects on display, the density of the gallery had to be carefully balanced to enhance the individual identity and beauty of each object.
