The Courtyard House is located on a steep slope and designed with a series of stepped courts cascading down through the levels of the land. The main house is designed around a large open to sky courtyard and a smaller guest house is subtly tucked into the hillside. The entrance of the house rests on the downward slope of the hill. A strong north-south axis connects this point to the expansive views of the hills around and beyond, as it traverses the court, the entrance hall, the living room and the deck. There are unexpected views and vistas pervading throughout the entire home.. Limestone cladding, patterned stone flooring and a collection of oriental wooden furniture by the owners on their travels, extends to the landscape and the pool beyond. While the design vocabulary is contemporary, the way the house interacts with the site makes it universal and yet it belongs to the place where it stands.
