The story of the Colaba Woods began in the early 1980’s when the Tata Electric Company took over an 8 acre plot of land from the B.M.C. at a nominal lease. Today, this green forest in the concrete jungle of Cuffe Parade is the lung of the locality.

Apart from the greenery, it has several other facilities such as a joggers’ track, an amphitheatre, a readers’ corner, basketball courts, children’s play corner and large areas for relaxation.

The Colaba Woods project is a prime example of what ordinary citizens can do for their city. The Colaba Woods is now used as an “open-air” museum. This way art is accessible to the average citizen of Mumbai.
